Where is my Home? (Kde Domov Muj?)

Warning: This blog will use the "P" word many times. And if you are easily offended, or annoyed by the "P" word then you should leave now!!

I am sitting here at my computer, with a picture of charles bridge at dusk on my monitor. And i miss it. It has been almost a year since i've been back to the Czech Republic, and not a day has passed since i thought about it. Living there last year was one of the best decisions of my life. But i also know that i couldn't have stayed and been happy. So, i think i got out, while it was still fun and exciting, and left before it got to be boring, and monotonous.

Prague is beautiful. But Prague at night will steal your heart. I've walked around almost every major European city, some are amazing, but none compare to Prague at night. The cobble stone echoes through the silent streets, which are basked in this beautiful yellow orange light.

I remember on my last night there, i went on a Prague walk, and went throughout the entire castle area. Normally, i dont like going on a walk of the castle, due to the annoying tourists, but it was December 1st, and almost midnight. As i was walking through the castle gates, i walked to a wall, that overlooks the entire city. It is the most panaramic view of Prague. On my right, i see Petrin tower... (the Eifel tower knock off) and on my left, i see the giant horse everything is just glowing. It is at this point that i had to remind myself to breathe.

I know i talk about Prague alot. But i love it.

And i hope that one day, i will be able to show you all around, and have the perfect Prague walk!

I'm glad that i have that off my chest. I dont think that words alone can express how much i love that city. (Not the people, just the city... :) ) It truly is, an amazing place.

Croquet Championship

I recently got a chance to go home for a 2 week family reunion. As you can tell from this picture we spent a lot of time playing croquet.

For all of those who haven't played this simple game of croquet, it can get quite vicious. At one point we were all screaming at each other. The picture on the right doesn't really depict what it was really like.

First of all, lets talk about the conditions. It was super hot and muggy on the day of the championship. Secondly, we are dealing with people that have little to no people skills, and or smarts. Lastly, the worst part of the tournament was the bugs. I forgot how many bugs there are in Kentucky. Notice, that half of us are wearing pants, (to avoid the bug bites).

To make a long story short. My team got second place. Ben and Hope got 1st place, and Jason and Lincoln got last place.... (they used the strategy of might over mind, and would send the balls flying over the hill, which caused them to lose!)

To make a long story short, it was a great time, and even though we fought the entire time, I'm sure everyone else would agree with me, saying that it's the best time we've had in a decade.

Books on Tape - Reading or Cheating?

Spoiler alert: This blog is really nerdy.

As you probably already know, I don't do much at work. I sit around all day and wait for someone to tell me what to do. It's pretty boring. But, when i actually have work to do, it doesn't take any brain power. So, i decided that i would start reading. I brought a book in, Pride & Prejudice, (Jessica's suggestion) and began to read. The funny thing was, is that people will always stopped me to comment on the book that I was reading! It was extremely frustrating, especially considering that I was having hard enough time just concentrating on the crazy ramblings of Elizabeth as it was.

I noticed; however, that when i listen to music that people never bother me. Which is great, because I don't really have anything to say to anyone at work anyway! So i brought a few books on tape with me, and i've been listening and enjoying them since.

Now this is when it gets sketchy. After i finished "reading" one of my books, my roommate said that i had not in fact read the book, because i didn't have the book, and didn't read it with my eyes. My opinion is, is that if you are too busy to sit down and read, but you can pay attention, than it is perfectly ok to listen to books. So far, i've "read" 5 books through my ear phones, and i can say that i probably paid more attention to them through that method than through actual reading. I would say that i probably never would have finished P&P any other way.

Portland - - The city that never stops raining!

I have been living in Portland for around 4 months now. It's a fine city, as far as cities are concerned. It's very green, and very diverse. In fact the slogan of the city is "Keep Portland Weird." which people here definitely take to heart. Walking through downtown Portland is like walking through a freak show, especially at the Saturday Market, (an outdoor flea market, where people sell there home made goods) where normalcy is frowned upon. :)

All the rumors of Portland are true. It rains alot. In fact, i would say that it's rained everyday since i've been here, minus 3 days. It doesn't bother me, everyone i talk to tells me that they would get really depressed if they lived here. But, I like the rain.

Another good thing about living in a really diverse city is the different food that i get to eat. Anyone who knows me, knows that i love to eat a different types of restaurants. True, i eat the same thing at most restaurants, (hamburger with no onion, no mayo, but add bacon) - - a phrase i can say in 3 languages, English, Czech, Slovak .... I also enjoy eating at different places. One of my new favorite places to eat at is a sushiland! it's a place where these Mexicans will make you sushi! I've eaten almost everything on the menu, but my two favorite things are: 1) California roll 2) Cucumber wrapped in seaweed. I like it, it's pretty cheap, and it's a fun atmosphere. I took a picture with my phone, so it's bad quality but it'll give you an idea of what the menu is like. That is octopus, which isn't bad, just chewy.

There is more going on in my life which i will explain on a later blog, but since i'm at work right now, i don't want to over do it!
